Vehicle: 2010 CHEVY CAMARO SS
Story:
Cory came to us originally when he had his built motor being boosted by an F1R supercharger. He was told by the previous shop that it made 960whp. But due to computer issues he was unable to get a dyno sheet. He asked us if we would be able to make another 40whp to try and get him 1000+whp. Seeing as he disclosed the fuel system and all components should be in place to support it. We attempted to do so.
Very sadly to our suprise the first 3 pulls on the dyno netted the highest of 760whp @ 19PSI... That is 200whp less then what he was told by the previous shop. After a few hours of cleaning up the tune, our tuner in house was able to recover just about 100whp to get him at 856whp. BUT this did not make the customer happy as his whole goal this time was to get a 4 digit dyno sheet as a minimum.
After further inspection of the setup and discussing with Procharger themselves.. We uncovered that not only was the blower too small for the desired power output. BUT the pulley setup chosen was already over spinning the blower itself at the 19psi it was producing.
This lead us to sit down and discuss the possible directions to be taken to achieve the goals he originally set out to reach. Either upgrade the blower and still be limited on growth by pulley sizes... Or take the jump to turbos... Which is the route he desired.
After this we really wanted to make the engine bay a piece of art for Cory. He takes extreme pride in all of his vehicles and really enjoys showing them as well as driving them. So not only did it need to produce the numbers, but it needed to look even better.
We ended up fabricating a couple setups and even swapped turbos to net the results of what you will see below.
We opted for NRE Twin 72mm Mirror image turbos to complete the symmetrical look. In which we also relocated the fuse panel and ABS system to the corner of the engine bay behind the fire wall. This allowed for the space and cleanliness we were looking for. On top of that we had to re-plumb the fuel system and catch cans as they were also poorly placed on the original setup. Then we had to clean up the look even more with a complete Billet Specialties LS Engine Dress up kit.
After all the initial fabbing was said and done we took to the dyno to get initial numbers. BUT this lead to another road block. We noticed that at idle the intake manifold itself was being sucked downward. Then when the engine was revved and vacuum would dissipate, it would then expand. But even worse under boost it would continue to expand like a balloon. Which lead to his next upgrade being the PLAZMAMAN Gorgeous LS3 Billet intake.
current number on this setup are as follows....
7.5psi - 724whp / 731tq
10psi - 814whp / 794tq
14.75psi - 987whp / 955tq
15.75psi - 1029whp / 1040tq
